We were born out of an idea that our community could be a reflection of the generations of proud, hard-working men and women who have called Smoketown home, that it could once again be a neighborhood of choice, and that it could be place of opportunity for residents and all Louisvillians alike.
Bates CDC was incorporated in 1996 and established as a 501(c)3 organization to engage in a wide range of community development activities and the provision of social services for the purposes of combating blight and deterioration in the Louisville metropolitan area and contribute to the advancement of community life. From the beginning, the goals and objectives of the organization have been to give reasonable promise that a stable environment will be created in the neighborhood by providing education opportunities for children and their parents, offering services including counseling and life skills training and developing low to moderate income housing for rental or sale. Our programs and activities are designed to remain consistent with our purposes of creating a stable environment in the neighborhood.
Smoketown was the birthplace of the Greatest. And its brightest days are still ahead.
We're proud of what we've accomplished but eager to do more
