The Bates Community Development Corporation (BCDC) provides the programs and services essential for continued social, economic, and community prosperity in Louisville’s historic Smoketown neighborhood.
We operate on a three Core Pillar model of community impact. This thoughtful, process-centered approach to development establishes smart and effective partnerships, all while ensuring that the support we provide is leveraged for maximum value and efficiency.
We work to build a neighborhood where all residents can exercise their full potential to lead productive, meaningful lives. By directing the collective potential of Smoketown toward projects which improve infrastructure and community assets, the work of the Bates CDC moves our community toward a future of endless possibilities.
Through educational and assistance programs, we support all residents of Smoketown as they move toward economic and financial self-sufficiency. With tax preparation services, financial literacy education, and Career Readiness after-school programs the Bates CDC has many opportunities for the members of its community to learn and grow.
With a compassionate understanding of the challenges faced by many residents of Smoketown, we offer multiple front-line services to assist with daily needs. From our Food Pantry to our “Pearl to Wear” Clothes Closet, the Bates CDC strives to provide a positive space for community gathering, where all are welcome and none ever turned away.
